Tips for Ensuring Fast Internet While Traveling
- Always test before committing. Run a speed test (fast.com or speedtest.net) at your accommodation before signing a lease. Test at different times of day — evening speeds often drop.
- Have a mobile backup. Buy a local SIM with a generous data plan as a backup connection. In many countries, 4G/5G tethering is reliable and affordable.
- Consider Starlink. In cities with inconsistent fixed-line internet (Bali, parts of Latin America), portable Starlink units are increasingly popular among nomads.
