Sailing the Greek Islands

With over 6,000 islands and islets, Greece offers endless sailing possibilities. Each island group has its own character, from the cosmopolitan Cyclades to the verdant Ionian, the historical Dodecanese to the wild Sporades.

The Cyclades

The iconic whitewashed villages and blue-domed churches of the Cyclades represent the quintessential Greek island experience. Santorini's dramatic caldera, Mykonos' legendary nightlife, and Naxos' traditional villages each offer unique experiences.

However, the Cyclades demand respect – the summer Meltemi wind can blow strongly from the north, sometimes reaching Force 7. Experienced sailors relish the challenge, while others should time their charter for shoulder seasons or consider starting in the more protected Saronic Gulf.

The Ionian Islands

For gentler sailing, the Ionian Islands on Greece's west coast offer calmer conditions, lush green landscapes, and excellent infrastructure. Lefkada, connected to the mainland by a bridge, is the main charter base. From here, sail to Kefalonia's stunning beaches, Ithaca (Odysseus' home), and the party island of Zakynthos.

The Saronic Gulf

Perfect for first-timers or short charters, the Saronic Gulf offers protected waters and easy day-sailing distances from Athens. Visit car-free Hydra, Aegina's pistachio groves, and charming Poros.

The Dodecanese

Near Turkey, the Dodecanese islands offer historical richness – Rhodes' medieval old town, Patmos where St. John wrote Revelation, and Kos with its ancient ruins. The area sees fewer charter boats and offers authentic Greek experiences.
